Princess Ilona was the daughter of the late Michael Szilágyi, the cousin of the late Matthias Corvinus, the wife of Vlad III, and the daughter-in-law of the late Vlad II, and the late Cneajna.
Biography
Ilona was the wife of Vlad the Impaler, known also as Dracula or Alexander Grayson, about 428 years prior to his arrival in london.
Only brief details of her life and her relationship with Vlad are given throughout the series although it is made clear that they cherished each other deeply. However Ilona was abducted by the Order of the Dragon and Vlad was forced to watch her burn to death.
Mina Murray is her reincarnation.

- The character of Ilona is based on Ilona Szilágyi who was Princess Consort of Wallachia and the second wife of Prince Vlad the Impaler. She was the daughter of Michael Szilágyi who was a cousin to Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary. Vlad had been imprisoned by his former ally, Matthias but gradually won back his favour and married Ilona in 1462. Around 1465, she bore him two sons: the elder Vlad IV Dracula, and the younger whom she named Mircea. Ilona also the step-mothered Vlad's son from his first marriage, Mihnea cel Rau.
